You know how you feel when you walk into an expensive hotel room? Even though thousands of people have occupied that room before you, you feel as if it's yours, at least for the time you've reserved it. Well that's how a buyer should feel when walking into your home. Once you decide to sell your home, detach yourself from it and make that buyer feel as if they are walking into that expensive hotel room. Take down knick knacks, pictures and personalized items. A good rule of thumb is no more than 3 items on any surface. Remove all items from kitchen counters. Neutralize the rooms with light colored paints like creams, tans and whites. Keep bright colors to a minimum. Buy new towels for the bathrooms and put out nice soaps. Replace old or worn looking bed coverings. Replace old lamps or dated lighting fixutures. This will make a big impact to buyers and help you sell your home.
